Build A Rabbit Hutch Yourself!
It’s Easier Than You Think.
My name is Jeff and I’m the owner of ‘this here’ site.
One day me and my family (My wife and 3 kids) decided to get a few rabbits in the backyard. We went to work researching what they like to eat, how they live and all the different breeds we could raise. Finally, after several weeks we finally decided we were ready.
All we needed to do was buy a cage first!
After arriving at the pet store to check out the prices we soon left. Gadzooks! My wife and I couldn’t believe how much they wanted for “fancy looking” (very cheap quality) hutches. So, we went home and searched the world wide web. I couldn’t believe it! Nothing UNDER $200.00.
I then decided to build my own.
The Goal
- Make It Simple
- Make It Strong
- Make It Square
- “Use As Little Lumber As Possible”
There is not much to a rabbit hutch, they are usually square and very simple in design.
Store Bought Hutches Are Usually Made With Low Quality Wood And Don’t Last Long.
One of the problems with most of the rabbit hutches you’ll buy from the stores though, is that they are build with very poor quality wood. If you use a better quality and more durable wood you will have your hutch for a very long time.
“You do not need to be an engineer or have
construction experience to build a simple rabbit hutch.”
I designed these rabbit hutch plans specifically for the total total beginner. You wont require anything except a few simple tools.
Here Is All The Lumber You’ll Need.
- 1 Single Piece Of Plywood
- 5 (2×4) Studs
That’s It!!! And It Is Really Strong Too.
After you are done putting your wood rabbit hutch together with rust proof galvanized wood screws (I thought of everything).
Then all you need to do is screw down some hardware cloth (it is very similar to chicken wire only stronger and it has smaller holes to protect the rabbit) and attach a few hinges and your done.
It will take you about an hour to put together after your cuts are finished.
If Your One Of Those “Do It Yourself” Weekend Warriors; This Project Is For You.
Did I mention that there are ONLY 11 straight cuts required. I had the nice people down at HomeDepot cut mine for me.
Only a few basic tools are needed to construct your rabbit hutch and these tools are in most weekend warriors arsenal.
Basic Tools
- Power Screwdriver
- Saw
- Tape Measure
- Wire Cutters
Don’t make costly mistakes! Make it sturdy! Follow my Easy to Read Steps with Color Pictures.
