The Havana rabbit breed originates from the Netherlands and made its first appearance in the late 1800’s. The Havana rabbit made history with its unique chocolate color. These days the Havana is more known for its excellent qualities as pet. It is actually said to be one the calmest breeds. Havana rabbits bond quickly to their owners. They love attention and are affectionate little animals. They are great with children, because they are a naturally gentle breed of rabbit.

These compact rabbits grow to be 4.5 to 6.5 lbs. The Havana rabbits’ short, rounded bodies are coated with soft fur that you’ll find hard to resist petting. The fur comes in black, blue, and chocolate and is easy to groom. In addition, their fur is known for its “fly-back” style. It falls back into place when petted. Havana rabbits come in a variety of colors, but blue, black and chocolate are most common. The Havana rabbits’ ears are short and stand close together.

Havana rabbits are practical for apartment dwellers as well has those with larger living quarters. They need very little room and eat much less than other rabbits. If you are looking for the ideal pet rabbit, the Havana is a great choice.
