Flemish Giant

01 February, 17:53, by admin

The Flemish Giant rabbit, as the name implies, can grow to be pretty big and is considered to be the biggest rabbit of all. Some Flemish Giant rabbits can grow as large as a dog. Though they can be quite monstrous in size, they are actually gentle giants.

Flemish Giant rabbits were imported from England in 1880 and are currently the most popular show breed. Their ears are long and stand straight up. Their head and body are broad. An arched back is a notable feature of this unique rabbit breed. The Flemish Giant comes in many different colors. They can grow, on average, to be anywhere from 13 to 22 pounds. Their large size, glossy fur, and muscular bodies make them perfect for show, but these rabbits also make wonderful household pets.

Flemish Giants are suitable for families with small children because their size make them sturdy against rough hands. Generally a quiet rabbit, the Flemish Giant is gentle and passive. They easy to handle; they don’t mind being held. Just like cats, they are easily litter trained.

A word of caution: Though the Flemish Giant is docile, it can be aggressive when mistreated. Some have been known to bite and scratch.
